Still surrounded by the turbulent sea, the red elephants make their way toward a monumental stone arch rising from the water. One by one, each elephant must pass through it, continuing a journey whose destination remains unseen. The baby is safely among them as they press forward through the restless waves. Threshold to the Millennium marks a mysterious passage in their voyage—each making the crossing in turn, toward something not yet revealed.
The A Moonlit Night series consists of six 48" × 60" fantasy oil paintings that follow a symbolic journey of red African elephants from a moonlit ocean to a new dawn. Painted before the poem was written, these works inspired my poem, A Moonlit Night. Each painting purchased from the series is accompanied by a signed copy of the poem.
