At last, the elephants reach the shore. The darkness of their moonlit journey has given way to a brilliant new dawn, and on the beach before them, pyres of tusks are burning—a symbol of hope that elephants will no longer be killed for their ivory. After their passage through the turbulent sea, the living herd—and the baby who has survived the journey with them—stands together before a new day. The Dawning of a New Day is both an arrival and a symbolic homecoming, a vision of a future in which elephants may finally live in safety.
